On this page we will follow Lady's
progress as we get her back into top condition.
She arrived with us in a poor condition after spending time on a drought affected property
in Queensland. We had purchased her through an internet site so it was sight unseen except for photos when we agreed to purchase
her.
Getting her here proved our first obstacle as at the border the transporter - Jackaroo -
was stopped and turned back with her. She was covered in ticks and had to be sprayed and kept for a week at Jackaroos
own personal property. A week later she was on her way again and we finally got her delivered here on the 30 June 2005.
As she came off the truck I was shocked at her condition although John had warned me that
she was in a poor condition.
As I do with all our horses I took hold of the lead and ran my hands over her. She responded
with a great warmth and I knew from that moment she would turn out to be a wonderful mare. Her temperament was of the
most gentle and giving. I think she knew she was now in good hands.
Lady's skin was covered in bumps and lumps from all the ticks she had had feeding off her.
The first night I gave her a biscuit of hay only as I didnt want to give her colic.
The next day I gave her a small hard feed of lucerne chaff, barley and a handfull of pony pellets.
After speaking to our vet I introduced her to a mix of white chaff, lucerne chaff, barley
and pony pellets and have gradually built that mix up. She also has a spoonful of seaweed extract to add the minerals to her
diet.
